Solstice to Solstice 2019

From Sober in Richmond (The Solstice Guy): “I started my 100 Day challenge on the Solstice [and am celebrating 4.5 years sober on June 21st] … If there is anyone out there who needs some motivation to start – perhaps they can do the Solstice to Solstice. It really helped me to have the power of the whole darn earth behind me rather than a day or date on a calendar … It’s an incredibly magical thing, the Solstice to Solstice!”

Imagine it’s the longest day of the year (Friday, June 21st in the northern hemisphere). Imagine you’re sober. June 21st can be your Day 1 or maybe it’s your Day 50. Or 400. Doesn’t matter. Can you see yourself sober on December 21st? Winter Solstice. Stand here. Look ahead 180 days. Because if you think the view from day 100 is great, wait until you see 180 days.

I like the idea of having the ‘whole darn earth behind me’ – how about you?

I want to put this online, to hold myself accountable. I want to document the noise in my head. I'm tired of thinking about drinking. date of last drink: june 30, 2012

  • These dates are speaking to me. June 21st is my birthday AND my second day of sobriety. I noticed that Belle’s last drink was on June 30th of ’12. June 30th of ’17 was my last drink date at one point. That sober stretch lasted 10 weeks, longest one to date. Hopefully next birthday/solstice I can post that I’m 366 days sober. I can’t imagine what that would feel like.

  • I’ve started today as day one…I had no idea there were so many others starting on the solstice! It wasn’t planned for me, just had enough of the stinking headaches and messy life. Felt ready today to call it. Warm wishes to all those others who start their sober journey today.

  • I have been looking forward to this so much! I contemplated participating last year, loved the magic of the number of days and the solstice to solstice idea, but I did not use sober supports and didn’t get very far. Going to try different this time! Best wishes to all. Maddy

  • I’m IN! Day 55 here, but I think there is something magical about Solstice! I listen to at least one podcast per day! <3

    • Hi, Mellisa, I’m a DMB girl too! Thanks for catching my attention. Today is my birthday and my second day of sobriety. The future is no place to place our better days, right? Thanks again for your inspiration.

  • Hello My Dear Friends this is The Solstice Guy. I LOVE reading all of your comments! If this is your Day 1, congratulations you are on your way! I am a maths nerd and my mind only works in certain ways, so Day 1 just had to be (Winter) Solstice. If the going gets tough, hang on, because 21 December WILL arrive. Trust me on that one. The earth knows the way. It has done the journey billions of times so just let go and let Mother Earth take you away on a fantastic journey. All the best to all of you!

  • I like this idea, solstice to solstice. I’m a little scared, but the view from Dec 21 looking back would be life-changing and amazing. I am always looking out for cards and gifts for people, even long before I plan to give them. Right about now is when I would start keeping my eyes peeled for Christmas gifts. Why not one for myself? I can start planning my gift to myself NOW, can’t I? To arrive at Christmas healthier, a better more present wife… that would be utterly amazing.

  • Yes. Im in. Solstice to Solstice. I feel shaky and overwhelmed typing this. And I really want it. So Im doing it🔥🌞💥❣️

  • Been on and off most of this year but the summer solstice sounds like good day one.

    Onwards and upwards!😀

  • I did it! One solstice to solstice completed. Now for the next one. Managed to get up too something I would never have managed whilst drinking, didn’t manage to catch the actual sun on the live Twitter feed but I don’t care because I’m sober .

  • I feel that this is just what the universe is sending my way ( with a gentle nudge from Belle and solstice guy) I am so so so sick and bloody tired of staring blankly at yet another day one !
Sober Solstice crusaders has a nice ring to it.

  • I just found my entry from last year’s june 21st. In retrospect, it was just another day one. But I’m not going to let my wolfie voice tell me that means the universe wasn’t behind me 😉 I don’t believe in magic dates anymore. What I do believe in though, is doing a hard thing together and with support. I’m here today, starting from day 340.

  • Day 25 today! The longest I’ve made it in 5 years! I’m in for Sober Solstice…I plan to stay sober forever but I love having the benchmarks to make me feel like I’m meeting goals along the way ☺️

  • Happy Solstice to everyone. It’s the shortest day here in my part of the world and a great time to hide away with hot chocolate and other sober treats. December 21st will be Day 250 (!) and will mean I’ve got through my first sober birthday in many, many years. I’m up for it.

  • Solstice to Solstice sounds like my kind of challenge. I’m in and I’m going to do it.

I’ve been saying for weeks I’m going Tea-total and have tried so many times. This time I’m not trying…. ‘do or do not, there is no try’

  • I’m in. Today is my Day One but I need motivation and a goal. Count me in for Solstice to Solstice.

  • Yes! I’m on my 2nd day 11, but feeling good, I’m celebrating this solstice sober, and will be at Yule. Thanks universe for getting me this far 🌞

  • Im going to do this again. It means i don’t have to make a decision about drinking again until 21st dec. Then I get to decide whether I feel Christmas or numb it out.

  • I’m in!

Tried to do the 100 day challenge before and got to day 75. But this time something has changed and I feel so confident that this sober life is my new life and I won’t look back (I’m stubborn that way :)) . Currently on day 81 which would take me to day 261 🙂

  • Well I wasn’t going to post anything but maybe it helps with the accountability thing…
Already did past 180 days but relapsed; so tomorrow is my day 30 for the second time round… so it’ll be good to commit to another 180 days and that’ll see me past day 200… could do with any power available!
Nice to not be feeling like I’m in this alone either 😍

  • I’m in , my day 1 is today but tomorrow I’m in for solstice to solstice!🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼❤️🌈

  • Lovely idea. I’m on the Northern hemisphere tomorrow but will be in the Southern Hemisphere in December…wow…from one long day to another…magic!!! Dee. On day 12.

  • Yes, please and thank you!
This is exactly what I need and want for motivation and a goal – solstice to solstice 2019, count me in!
    118 days today

  • Saturday the 21st of December 2019 will be my day 379 (if my calculations are correct). I’m in! I’m not sure what my life will look like by then, but I’m optimistic 🙂
