Solstice to Solstice 2018

From Sober in Richmond (The Solstice Guy): “I started my 100 Day challenge on the Solstice [and am celebrating 3.5 years sober tomorrow] … If there is anyone out there who needs some motivation to start – perhaps they can do the Solstice to Solstice. It really helped me to have the power of the whole darn earth behind me rather than a day or date on a calendar … It’s an incredibly magical thing, the Solstice to Solstice!”

Imagine it’s the longest day of the year (tomorrow in the northern hemisphere). Imagine you’re sober starting tomorrow, June 21st. It can be your Day 1 or maybe it’s your Day 50. Or 400. Doesn’t matter. Can you see yourself sober on December 21st? Winter Solstice. Stand here. Look ahead 180 days. Because if you think the view from day 100 is great, wait until you see 180 days.

I like the idea of having the ‘whole darn earth behind me’ – how about you?

Belle

I want to put this online, to hold myself accountable. I want to document the noise in my head. I'm tired of thinking about drinking. date of last drink: june 30, 2012

  • I am in. Today is day one. So many days ones the last few months after a month off. Upset at myself for starting again but wolfie got me. Slow and steady…

  • I just read about the Solstice to Solstice challenge today, and am so happy that I quit drinking on 6/21 too! I’m in!

  • I’m on say 57 and I like the Solstice to Solstice plan. It’ll keep me going past my 100 Day Challenge but doesn’t feel like forever.

  • 6/23 two days since I read this bit. Two days sober. I’ve been toying with this sober idea again, hence the reading and listening to sober blogs/ podcasts. I like this Summer Solstice as my beginning, for whatever reason it seems like an anchor, something I can hold on to. It seems silly really, it’s a date but, it got me through last night. So here goes (I hope, feeling doubt now) from Summer Solstice through today and toward the Winter Solstice.

    Thanks for the email.

  • This sober thing is good. I feel much better than I thought I would. Count me in too. I want to keep this thing going. Day 74 on June 21. Can’t quite believe it! Thank you!

  • This has been a challenge for me. But I know I need to do this now ! I accept the challenge , I am in !

  • Count me in too- I am on day 139 and haven’t felt so good in years. I love the thought of going with the seasons.

  • I love the idea of Solstice to Solstice and the whole earth (or the whole Universe!) behind me. I have been sober for 5 months. Can’t think “forever” yet, but I can think “Solstice to Solstice.”

  • Count me in. I’m a nature gal. Today has been absolutely beautiful. The more sober time I get the more I feel like me.

  • Love it! Being an amateur astronomer and following the seasons and stars for several years now solstice sobriety is perfect for this kid. Here we go….St. Peter

  • I’m in – I have tried and failed numerous times. I have the book the audio the bracelet…… I think I need to approach this like I did when I quit smoking! Just get through it one craving at a time. The craving only lasts a few minutes at a time and it’s that stupid Wolfe trying to mess with me! I want to starve him out just like I did with nicotine. 12 years no smoking and absolutely no desire to smoke!! I can do this. I only feel like drinking for a few hours in the evening not all day like smoking . I am in! – Colette

      • Thank you, I went on line here last year and took the challenge and after the first 100 days, just kept on sailing. I felt so good, healthy and happy, i made better decisions and then after over 200 days i started drinking again, so here i am back ! Thank you for being here, So…I want to put this online to make myself accountable. ” I’m in for the challenge” thank you Solstice Guy, thank you Belle. Happy Solstice, Day One !, Abigail

      • Thanks for sharing that Abigail! I have two buddies at work who are further down the road with this than I (day 1) again. They are so kind and I feel like I have sober support friends and that will help me be accountable too I think
