The power of the earth behind me

From Sober in Richmond (The Solstice Guy): “I started my 100 Day challenge on Winter Solstice [and is celebrating 3 years sober tomorrow] … If there is anyone out there who needs some motivation to start – perhaps they can do the Solstice to Solstice. It really helped me to have the power of the whole darn earth behind me rather than a day or date on a calendar. I like Winter to Summer because the days get longer, and each day brings about more promise and more hope. It’s an incredibly magical thing, the Solstice to Solstice!”

Imagine it’s the shortest day of the year (tomorrow in the northern hemisphere). Imagine you’re sober starting tomorrow, December 21st. It can be your Day 1 or maybe it’s your Day 50. Or 400. Doesn’t matter. Can you see yourself sober on June 21st? Summer Solstice. Stand here. Look ahead 180 days. Because if you think the view from day 100 is great, wait until you see 180 days.

Belle

I want to put this online, to hold myself accountable. I want to document the noise in my head. I'm tired of thinking about drinking. date of last drink: june 30, 2012

  • I would like to be sober from Solstice to Solstice. I am currently on day 2, which is a really scary place to be. I was going to do the 100 and my crazy drinking brain, I call her Dawn, immediately thought…. holy shit I cannot imagine 80 more days after 100!!! Then I realized that after my boyfriend and I haphazardly attempted to identify the 100th day without actually counting and came to the conclusion that it’s a good thing our student loans weren’t for degrees in math! Solstice to Solstice works well with our lifestyle anyway.

  • I’ve signed up twice in the past for the Solstice challenge but didn’t make it. This time I’m going to complete it. Third time lucky! Looking forward to the challenge & the brighter days!6

  • I read this before with a touch of envy – how could anyone manage that and why was I circling day 1 repeatedly? It seems manageable now somehow … I’ll be needing those audios too. I’m in.

  • I did this last year…i was at day 120 and starting to feel really good and thinking this might be a permanent move. I made it to June and then making it to a year in August was a no brainer. Day 485 and signing up for another solstice!

  • I’m on day 50 something now and I hadn’t realized until yesterday that I’m over half way through my 100 day sober challenge – i know – duh! It just hadn’t occurred to me. When I realized it I got a bit wistful – I don’t want this 100 days to end. So to the summer solstice, and beyond!

  • I’d love to try Solstice to Solstice I’ve been close to making 6 months but haven’t quite gotten there and I think this would be great motivation I’m currently on day 6

  • Thank you for the idea of the Solstice to solstice! I tried last December but didn’t make it. I was determined to try again so I started on June 21st. Tomorrow is my 6 month mark and then I will recommit to doing it again!

  • I had day 100 yesterday, on the 19th. I like the idea of a new challenge. I will be participating, anything to keep the momentum going I say!

  • Funny getting this today! I’m coming up on Day 70 and getting antsy about what goal I can have once I reach 100. I’m in for the solstice to solstice…June 21st here I come

  • Tomorrow on the Winter Solstice I will be 235 Days sober. I like the idea of going solstice to solstice, because it gives me another mid-range goal to be headed toward. I’m not drinking for the next 180 days. I’m going to let the light in, a little more each day. I’m going to see what summer solstice me looks like with 180 more days under my belt.

  • That’s exactly what I decided to do at the Summer Solstice this year. First goal was the Equinox and now have nearly arrived at the Winter Solstice. Looking forward to next year’s Summer Solstice to celebrate my first sober year.

  • I think I read this idea here on the blog before. Or maybe on another blog. And I love it. I was feeling left out though. Wishing I had started on the solstice. Until I read “or say 50 or day 400.”

So I’m in! I like imagining how life will look in another 180 days. That feels like hope. That feels like anticipation. That’s a new goal. That feels good.

  • This year I am going to complete the solstice to solstice challenge, I’ve tried in the past, but have never made it completely. I’m up for the challenge now. I want the power of the Earth behind me. Day 16 today, looking forward to seeing the view on June 21st!!!
