I am grateful to Belle for opening the recovery door and letting me peek through. Now, at 900 days sober, I am able to zoom out and see the large scale use of alcohol as a major source of dysfunction, sorrow and illness.
Alcohol and other drugs are a waste of human energy.
Alcohol is marketed to us from all angles to fuel that multibillion dollar industry. It seems our economy is built on propagating unconsciousness.
Anxiety, resentment and self judgment can cause us to feel a sense of inadequacy.
Our brain is wired to want to counteract overwhelm.
When addiction (Wolfie) happens, as it will, with repetitive use of addictive substances, it creates a default pathway that’s not easy to change.
With careful attention to self care, including mindful awareness practice, nutrition, exercise, community (Belle) and self love (treats) the craving brain (Wolfie) will subside.
With time and practice (little car) the fully awake self will realize that the escape it was hoping to get from chemicals is temporary and ultimately destructive.
Our true peace and serenity is already present in ourselves.
The most beautiful gift of recovery is that once we nurture it (little chick), in ourselves, we can pass it on to someone else!

Congratulations to you ALL! Quite impressive. I am 31 days sober. What is the #1 thing to which you attribute your long term sobriety. I understand it takes many sober tools, I’m just interested in how you see it from your side.
