Last week I recorded a quite long question-and-answer live broadcast for my weekly sober podcast series. You’re familiar with the one-minute audios. These are longer, meatier.
Part 4 of the Q&A call (episode #162) covers this question:
~ How do you actually ‘quit’ on day 1, and stay sober, and make it stick? Like, how do you actually have a LAST day 1?
The full audio recording for this episode is 11 minutes long. Here’s a 1 minute preview. This is a stand-alone part.

Great question…day 1 sucks! You feel like shit, mentally and physically, and the easiest way we know to get rid of that feeling is to drink again. I guess this is one of those things where you have to look at the long term picture instead of the instant change of mood (another tough thing when you’re used to drinking to immediately change your mood). For me, in the beginning, it was immersing myself in ways to stay sober, dealing with feeling super uncomfortable and crappy, and trying to remember a time when alcohol wasn’t the focus of my life and wanting freedom from that prison I’d created with it. Patience…lot of patience in the beginning. With yourself and those you’ve hurt (if you’ve done so).
