Solstice to Solstice

From Sober in Richmond: “I started my 100 Day challenge on Winter Solstice 21 Dec … It’s getting so easy to not drink – I’m just used to it. And the days are flying by. My point? If there is anyone out there who needs some motivation to start – perhaps they can do the Solstice to Solstice. It really helped me to have the power of the whole darn earth behind me rather than a day or date on a calendar.”

Imagine it’s the shortest day of the year (today, in the northern hemisphere). Imagine you’re sober today. This can be your Day 1 or maybe it’s your Day 50. Or 400. Doesn’t matter. Can you see yourself sober on June 21st? Summer Solstice. Stand here. Look ahead 180 days. Because if you think the view from day 100 is great, wait until you see 180 days.

I like the idea of having the ‘whole darn earth behind me’ – how about you?

Belle

I want to put this online, to hold myself accountable. I want to document the noise in my head. I'm tired of thinking about drinking. date of last drink: june 30, 2012

  • Congratulations Inky for your S2S victory and 413 + days!! You are an inspiration to me!
I clocked it outta the ball park myself…solstice to solstice sober homerun and (boo yah!) it does feel fantastic! As I approach my one year Soberversary on July 19th, I am filled with gratitude for this blog and to Belle who rocks it like nobody’s biz and beats Wolfie into oblivion!

  • Hi Belle! I’m here to spike the football after totally nailing this Soltice to Solstice challenge! Boo yah, sober strawberry moon! Hot damn, sober longest day of the year! I got me 413 days!

  • Yes please. I’m new to this – day 16 – but love the idea of Solstice to Solstice. I’m breaking it down into smaller segments: Christmas, New Year, my husband’s birthday (5th Jan), my birthday (14th Jan). I can’t see much further than that right now, but there will be day 50, day 100, the Spring Equinox, my 10th wedding anniversary, the Summer Solstice. With the whole earth behind me.

  • Solstice to solstice challenge – love the image of the whole earth behind me! It’s also my grandmother’s birthday 12/21 – powerful time of year for changes. I will start with Solstice to Equinox, but hope to have the momentum to go forward from there. Thanks for the support-
    Nan

  • Well, am planning to run my first marathon since 2009 on 26 June, so staying alcohol-free between now and then makes very good sense. Solstice has always been more important to me than some other dates that are marked on the annual calendar. So, count me in 🙂

  • Solstice to Solstice sounds pretty cool. Today I’m 156 days sober so if I did make
it, that would be a whopping 336 days. I couldn’t do more than 3 days prior and those small breaks were few and far in between. I’ve got my momentum in gear and wanna keep going uphill where the air is clear and hope resides. Wolfie, your shenanigans are shit so just stay outta the way ‘ya hear? I got Belle and planet earth on my side.

  • Hi Belle! Today is 231, but I’d love to do the solstice to solstice challenge! By June 21, I’ll be just over a year. Yay!!
