While I was at the beach on the weekend, i recorded an audio to send to people waiting to do the 100 day challenge. Yesterday morning I sent out the audio and I got several immediate responses, including this one:
“I just wanted to let you know that your sober postcard brought me to tears. It was so spot on, and how interesting and beneficial it was to actually hear you. I am looking forward to joining the 100 day challenge and receiving a penpal.”
So then today I thought I’d talk more about my beach weekend and turn the whole big thing into a proper sober podcast for my podcast subscription thingy. And I inserted the welcome audio into the full length podcast audio (i know, how meta).
Anyway.
Here’s a 2.5 minute extract from the podcast; the entire full audio podcast for subscribers is about 20 minutes long, and contains before and after commentary.
There is also, for your listening pleasure, some obnoxious beach/seagull noises in this clip.
Please leave a comment after you listen to the extract … so that i know you’re out there.

Love the beach! It’s my favorite place. I used to love to drink at the beach too. Now I don’t drink anymore. Almost 300 days… Being sober isn’t always easy but it’s way better than the person I was. Stuck. Not being fully present. Every day of being sober is a gift to myself. Thanks for the podcast Belle. ~Denise
from crystal light: “I loved Postcard from the beach audio. The description of sitting by the ocean in your beach chair and why would anyone ruin it with alcohol. Yet I remember all the times I would make sure we had a cooler filled with beer and offer everyone a drink so I would not be the only one drinking. How lame! I cracked up when you said this is how 100 days sober sounds and then played the ocean and seagull sounds. Also love your signature goodbye. You are awesome!! (I donโt really like to use that word – because I think it is overused) but there really is no other way to describe you. Crystal Light.”
Thanks for the beach sounds Belle. They are so cleansing and refreshing!
I can’t listen to more than 3 mins because I’m on sober Holidays and I don’t have wifi. I’m loving this time. Sleeping for 10 hours, no major cravings, feeling healthy. I’m looking forward to having some wifi to listen to all 20 mins. Yipee
I too loved this Belle! My husband and I did a long weekend at the beach (my first sober get away) and I was apprehensive. It was beautiful, I didn’t have a hangover, and the sounds were incredible. I won’t say I didn’t think of a Margarita or an ice cold beer. But guess what? Soft ice cream on the boardwalk was awesome.
Just coming off of my first sober vacation at the beach. It was fantastic and sounded just like the background in the podcast! Waking up with a clear head and tons of energy after a great night of sleep is the only way to vacation. I recommend it to everyone :))
I was lucky enough to have just returned from two weeks of those wonderful ocean sounds, sober. Second sober vacation was awesome. Had a mini meltdown over Husband #1 drinking but Belle helped me through it. After 400 days she still helps. I’m a grateful girl.

from Sarita: “Great one. You can end every podcast w/ beach sounds as far as I’m concerned. That whole podcast was a delightful reminder of how lovely it is to be able to relax and smell the ocean w/o Wolfie. I forget sometimes what it was like when he went everywhere w/ me and was in charge of our destination choices! Not anymore! :))) XOX”
Belle – This was FANTASTIC. I loved it. When your head is not in a good place (and by your, I mean mine), it is so helpful to hear (a) from you; and (b) PERSPECTIVE. I couldn’t imagine 100 days, but I’m here. Now, I can’t imagine 180 days, and I *really* can’t imagine a sober vacation. It was really lovely hearing the beach noises, and to imagine being present enough to enjoy and remember them. <3
It’s so true – the 1st sober holiday is a little daunting but it does get easier & you get to do whatever you like as you’re fresh each morning to enjoy the day. Loved the relaxing beach noises at the end ๐
Love, love, love this podcast! I have taken some small vacations since being sober – 126 days today – but in a week I will be taking a 2 week long Mediterranean cruise and I will be sober for all of it. No question in my mind – drinking is no longer a part of my life. To confirm what Belle said, I very rarely even think about drinking anymore. The battle of the voices in my head that were there every day & every night is gone – gone for good. New Team 100 members – believe every word Belle says. Fight the good fight and you will be victorious and gloriously sober and loving every second of your hangover free life (well maybe some of the seconds are not perfect, but they can be dealt with because your head will be clear)!!!
Hugs, hugs & more hugs to Belle & my sober Pen Pal – Rebecca. Ladies I am so grateful that you are both in my life!!!!
Sober. Wow this work thing is awesome. I haven’t worked in 3 years because I was a stay at home mom and I think I was just bored. Haven’t thought about drinking in 3 days.
