alcohol-free whiskey

Cindy Becoming Human (day 42):
Sober but want a drink today. First time in ages. Can’t they make alcohol-free whiskey!?

me:
they DO make alcohol free whiskey.
it’s called tea.
and a nap.
they achieve the same thing.
you need a break and a treat!
hugs,
me

Belle

I want to put this online, to hold myself accountable. I want to document the noise in my head. I'm tired of thinking about drinking. date of last drink: june 30, 2012

  • I don’t know. Is there an addiction specialist following this blog? If so, can you please chime in? I’m not so sure we can all so easily dismiss Cindy Becoming Human’s question. Isn’t that the whole complexity of this issue? If it was so simple, couldn’t anyone “quit” drinking (as “normies” keep saying)? Isn’t there some brain chemistry change due to addiction? Is there any science behind this? I hear folks say that the treatment is simple (don’t drink) but not easy. I think there’s some truth in that. I’d love to know what anyone else thinks about this — pros or cons.

    • Kay, i’m sorry if you thought my comment was too sarcastic. of course, it’s all more complicated than “just have tea.” but one thing i feel certain about, we use booze as our reward for hard shit. and there are other rewards we should/can try first. sometimes they work. chocolate, tea, bath, nap. Hope that helps.
